I bought this battery several weeks ago and it seems to be an excellent buy. The HP website sells this for almost 3x as much and it is a different style then this one. Under typical classroom use I can get 3 hours out of it in my tx2z. Also note the difference in capacity between this and the OEM 8 cell battery (63 versus 73 mAh). So far my laptop hasn't exploded or done any of the other terrible things people say non OEM batteries do. Even if this battery lasts half the time of HP's battery it is well worth it.

The Tx2500z HP battery costs upward of $150 add $20 shipping. This was about a third of the factory price, but for a 8 cell battery it does not really give sufficient backup. Probably the series of latop drains way too much power.

I get about 2.5-3 hours backup on low performance setting. Not bad at all coz the factory battery which died just after 1yr warranty never gave me more than 1hour backup.

I got this battery today and so far it's holding a charge well. Sadly that's the end of the good news. The battery I received from power direct was not the one pictured, instead it's the thicker style which raised the laptop off the table. I can deal with that, but the other issue is that the right battery latch on my HP TX2 won't lock in place when I use this battery. There appears to be something preventing it from locking but my original HP battery doesn't have this issue. This sucks because since this is a tablet I depend on the battery as a handle at times and you can't trust it if both battery locks won't engage. Disappointed and wished I would have sprung for the original HP battery instead.

The power cord of my Compaq V2000 laptop was giving me problems. I tried to buy the original HP power cord but some electronic retailers asked me $100 plus for it. You will need a motherboard in approximately 14 months; that's how long they last on the average.... Sure it will run great now but make sure that you get extended warranty coverage (upwards of a year). Your TX 1000z dissipates heat in a very poor manner: symptomatic of CPUs that have been overclocked; but the real defect lies in the motherboard. Read the reviews on cnet.com and pay special attention to those that own the laptop above a year; believe me, you won't think that this is the greatest thing since slice bread a year from now.

So far so good!!!

This is the first HP that I have purchased, and I'm impressed.

With a flawless touchscreen, intellegently placed Altec Lansing speakers, well-positioned fingerprint reader, efficient webcam and competent keyboard, this laptop has far exceeded my expectations from HP.

The key reason behind this is that all my friends who own an HP have reported some problem or the other with their machine. I'm lucky I guess.

The operating system is really fast, thanks to Microsoft. The 4 gigabyte RAM helps a lot too. Not to mention the state of the art AMD processor.

And about the touchscreen, it's so cool that I can rest my hand on the screen while I take notes. The double receptive functionality (finger + stylus) is great too.

All in all, a masterpiece.

"It is not a REAL tablet. Period." 2008-03-28

I bought it directly from HP and received 30% discount to find out a week later that HP stopped producing tx1000 (hence the large discount). What they do not tell you is that this model does not have Wacom digitizer and active display. This model has a passive display,and what that means is that you would be able to write on the screen as successfully as you try to write something in you Blackberry.

When you try to write on the screen you have to apply so much pressure and the hand has to be at a certain angle. Even that did not always help me as a result I got a bunch of dots or some weird looking lines that did not resemble any letters. The pen primarily serves a function of the mouse. And also forget about trying to draw anything, it will not work the same as the writing.

The computer is loaded with HPs bloatware (as usual) and Vista is slower than XP. The comp is unable to play any games (tried Command and Conquer) due to its weak videocard. In addition the screen is very grainy though it was expected.

If you you are looking for a real tablet get yourself their new tx2000 which has Wacon Penable digitizer and an active display. That baby will allow you to write on it like on the real paper with no problems at all.

I received this computer three days ago. Although I will admit to being smitten with the novelty of simply having a laptop, this is amazing. The tablet feature alone blew me away. This notebook is able to convert into a "slate" and a touch-screen with an attachment allow you to write in any box (even on the internet) where input is needed.

It even recognizes cursive handwriting! I just wrote this in MY OWN WRITING!!!

Naysayers be damned, I give Windows Vista my full confidence. Period.

(I'm still using the pen to write.) Vista's usability & user-friendliness is simply astounding! This is the first computer I have ever owned that allowed me to be online within 10 minutes of startup. A gem, through & through!!

I take my laptop literally everywhere I can. I like to have an additional battery that will last a while. The laptop is already hefty so this battery didn't add too much more weight. It boosted the rear upward so it helps with viewing the screen when I'm in laptop mode. It helps me to get a better grip on the body when in tablet mode, although I would not try to carry the laptop by the battery as one person said he tried to do.
